Milton S. Grisham, Ph.D.
I am a licensed psychologist and have been in private practice at Cherokee Counseling for over 25 years. I provide both psychotherapy and psychological evaluations for children, adolescents, and adults. My treatment strategies are tailored to match the unique needs of each client in order to achieve his or her goals as quickly and effectively as possible.
With younger children, I use play therapy to facilitate the expression of difficult emotions (fear, anger, and loss) in a safe, healing environment. I also work closely with parents to develop appropriate parenting strategies and effective communication skills for helping their children. I help adolescents develop new skills to cope with challenges such as academic stress, anger control, social anxiety, identity issues, low self-esteem and mood swings.
With adults, I seek to provide immediate relief for conditions like anxiety, trauma, stress, grief, and depression. I also help clients make fundamental and lasting changes in how they think, feel, and act in order to change unwanted behavior patterns, improve self-esteem, and develop positive, fulfilling relationships.
I am trained and experienced in a variety of psychotherapeutic approaches including cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), play therapy, mindfulness based stress reduction, acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), rapid eye movement desensitization therapy (EMDR), and psychodynamic therapy.
