Coralie R. Scherer, Ph.D. is a Licensed Psychologist in the state of Georgia. She received her doctorate from the University of Florida and completed her pre-doctoral internship at the University of California at Berkeley. She was a licensed psychologist in California prior to arriving to Georgia in 2003. Before undertaking training in psychology, Dr. Scherer taught junior high/middle school and high school English and Reading at various schools in Florida. In California, she simultaneously taught at the College of San Mateo and was a staff psychologist at San Jose Marital and Sexuality Centre for 14 years. She has presented at numerous workshops, has participated in research, co-authored chapters and online articles in the area of sexuality and sex and the Internet. She has helped individuals and couples dealing with a variety of sexual concerns and has assisted numerous couples and families improve communication and create closer relationships. She has also worked with individuals on a variety of issues such as weight loss, grief, anger, issues of aging, compulsive behaviors, bipolar disorder, depression and anxiety. She performs psychological evaluations for individuals seeking clearance for bariatric surgery and is currently developing an interest in helping persons who are affected by excessive buying and hoarding.
Dr. Scherer draws primarily on family systems and interpersonal psychodynamic psychotherapy in her work and also draws from an eclectic array of approaches to meet the unique needs of her clients. She is a member of the Georgia and American Psychological Associations.
