Melissa Herring, Ph.D.

Dr. Herring is a Licensed Psychologist in the state of Georgia.  She has been with Cherokee Counseling since 2003. She received her doctoral training in clinical psychology from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, and completed her pre-doctoral internship at the Emory University School of Medicine in the Department of Psychiatry & Behavioral Sciences.  She then completed an additional year of postdoctoral training at Emory University, where she received more specialized training in child assessment through the Department of Pediatrics and women’s issues through the Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology. She has published several articles dealing with child development, parenting, and maternal depression

Dr. Herring works with children, adolescents, and adults. Her services include family, individual, and couples counseling, as well as assessment of childhood learning difficulties.  She specializes in parenting, adolescent adjustment, relationships, and women’s health. She also has specialized training in pregnancy and post-partum mood disorders.

She values the importance of helping people create more meaningful and satisfying lives. She enjoys working with a range of issues that present across the lifespan and helping people enhance their relationships. She utilizes cognitive-behavioral, interpersonal, and family systems theories to address the needs of her clients.
